Dear School Community,
I want to inform you of a school bus incident that occurred today at approximately 12:20 p.m. near the intersection of Dietrich Blacktop and Illinois State Route 50 in Clay City.
One of our school buses, carrying 15 students, was forced to swerve off the road into a ditch to avoid hitting a tire that had fallen off another vehicle. Four students were transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. All injuries are treatable and non-critical.
Illinois State Police, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, and local first responders quickly arrived at the scene and provided immediate assistance. The remaining students were evaluated by EMT’s and then reunited with their families.
We are in close contact with the families of the injured students and our bus driver, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they complete their investigation.
The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority. School counselors will be available tomorrow for any students who may need additional support following this incident.
Sincerely,
John Neubaum, Superintendent
Clay City CUSD #10
